Donate Dalit Reader’ Innovative Approaches to Raise Voice
One of the most significant challenges about dealing with injustice is finding effective ways to communicate about it. This is especially true for Nepal’s Dalits, who are far behind the national average on human development indicators. Far below the national average in education, they lack tools and resources to engage in public discourses. Having received little support in school, if not discouragement, only a few go on to graduate college; only a handful can write and speak with the ability to engage broader audiences.
To address the above gap in a small but significant way, Dalit Reader (DR) has been piloting Writing for Social Justice (WSJ) workshops in both Nepali and English languages for a few years, showing that facilitated and mentor-led workshops greatly help build writing and publication skills. Graduates of the past workshops have been prolific in their subsequent publication of Op-Eds in leading national dailies, as you can see at this site. We hope to add dimensions of research and other rigor in the upcoming series.
Our expert facilitators contribute voluntarily, but DR finds it extremely challenging to sustain its innovative initiatives due to financial constraints to support logistic arrangement. Hence, it charges a certain amount of fees and provides scholarships to talented candidates from coming from historically marginalized communities, remote areas, and poor families to clear off the obstacles arising from financial requirements. This has been possible with benevolent support from Dalit Reader’ friends who are highly committed to social justice and equality.
Inspired by the support from the friends and on their advice, we have created an opportunity for more of Dalit Reader’s friends to contribute to accommodate additional talented candidates from needy backgrounds with scholarships and fellowships. दलित रीडरको अभियानलाई सहयोगका लागि अनुरोध ।
सामाजिक न्यायका लागि सबैभन्दा महत्वपूर्ण चुनौती सीमान्तीकृत समुदायको आवाजहरुको प्रभावकारी सञ्चार हो । विशेष गरी मानव विकासका दृष्टिमा नेपाली समाजको सबैभन्दा तल्लो तहमा रहेका दलित समुदायले यस्तो समस्या झेल्दै आइरहेका छन् । शिक्षामा कमजोर पहूँचका कारण सार्वजनिक बहसहरुमा उनीहरुको आवाज बिरलै सुनिन्छ । विद्यालय तहको शिक्षा पुरा गरी उच्च शिक्षा अध्ययन गर्ने दलित समुदायका युवाहरुको संख्या निकै थोरै छ । त्यसमध्ये पनि प्रभावकारी रुपमा दलित सवाललाई लेखनमार्फत् उजागर गर्नेहरुको संख्या औलामा गन्न सकिने छ ।
सार्वजनिक विमर्समा दलित मुद्दा उठानको खाडललाई पुरा गर्नका लागि दलित रीडरले केही वर्षअघि देखि नेपाली र अंग्रेजी दुवै भाषामा सामाजिक न्यायका लागि लेखन कार्यशाला सञ्चालन गर्दै आएको छ । दलित रीडरको यस्तो अभियानले लेखन कार्यमा विज्ञ र सहभागीहरुको सामुहिक सिकाइले सीमान्तीकृत समुदायका मुद्दालाई लेखन र प्रकाशनमार्फत् राष्ट्रिय बहसको विषय बनाउन सक्छ भन्ने देखाएको छ । यस अघिका कार्यशालाहरुमा सहभागी प्रशिक्षार्थीहरुले लेखेका र विभिन्न राष्ट्रिय दैनिकहरुमा प्रकाशन भएका सामग्रीहरु तपाई दलित रीडरको वेव साइटमा गएर पनि हेर्न सक्नुहुन्छ । हामीले आगामी कार्यशालाहरुमार्फत् अनुसन्धान र अन्य महत्वपूर्ण गहन सामाजिक आयामहरूलाई समेट्दै जाने छौं ।
